Wendy Jane's Weekend Sounds: Stooges Brass Band Perform Wind It Up

The air of these last days of August are quite delicious, so after work today I headed right down the road to the Summit Music Festival at Lippitt Park in Providence.   The festival ended at 6 pm, so I only caught the tail end of a day filled with music from local bands like Roz Raskin & the Rice Cakes, The Sugar Honey Iced Tea, and the ever fabulous Extraordinary Rendition Band.I was lucky to be there to watch the closing act brought in from New Orleans, The Stooges Brass Band.  The band was rated #2 best brass band in New Orleans this year by Buzzfeed.  I can see why.I found out by watching their Youtube videos after the concert, that they played here with a pared down troupe of four horn players, guitarist and drummer.  Still, their sound was blazing;  their energy contagious--definitely, New Orleans festive! Here's the Stooges Brass Band, playing Wind It Up on the steps of the United States Embassy in Bishkek.  They were invited to play for the 10th Anniversary of the American Corners and Centers program in the Kyrgyz Republic. You should definitely look up other videos of the Stooges Brass Band on Youtube to get their full flavor.  They have a number of videos of performances from music festivals, as well as some from New Orleans street parades. You can also visit their website at www.stoogesmusicgroup.com to learn more about them.  Maybe you'll be lucky enough to have them play near you someday soon. ________SOURCE:  www.youtube.com posted by US Embassy Bishkek, June 2013
