Wendy Jane's Weekend Sounds: I Don't Know Why by O.V. Wright

I got the tip off on I Don't Know Why by O.V. Wright via holy soul's tumblr, a rich site for soul and r&b lovers.I learned that O.V. Wright was born in Tennessee in 1939, and began singing in the church at around age 10.  He toured some with a gospel choir, the Sunset Travelers before crossing over to secular music.  Wright recorded the soulful, That's How Strong My Love Is, which both Sam Cooke and the Rolling Stones covered and went on to have a number of Top 20 hits up until the late 70's.  It seems that Wright struggled with substance abuse issues that compromised his health, and died of a heart attack at the young age of 41.His music lives on not only through listening to his vintage works, but also through hip-hop samplings of Wright's  Motherless Child and Let's Straighten It Out by Ghostface Killah and Wu-Tang Clanhappy soul sunday! SOURCE:www.holysoul.tumblr.comwww.youtube.com posted by The Phneutrehttp://www.allmusic.comwww.wikipedia.comwww.gomemphis.com  (photo credit)
