Wendy Jane's Weekend Sounds: Corinee Bailey Rae - Been To The Moon

Corinne Bailey RaeCorinne Bailey Rae. Yes, you remember her 2006 Put Your Records On and Like A Star, and then she seemed to drop out of sight, right?  It's said the British singer took a hiatus after her marriage to Scottish jazz musician, Jason Rae, ended with his unfortunate passing at the age of 32 in 2008.  Rae, then 29, was given the same coroner's report as Amy Winehouse received--death by misadventure--he succumbing to an accidental overdose of methadone and alcohol.Corinne didn't produce another album until 2010. That album, The Sea, and the four song, The Love EP in 2011, were not so much on my radar, but I remember hearing a song or two and longing more for the Rae of her first album.Well, she's back, and with a sneak peak of her single, Been To The Moon from her forthcoming album (out on May 13, 2016) The Heart Speaks in Whispers, I'm in love again with her and her music.Been To The Moon is magic.  In art, I want to be moved. I want to feel.  Much more than I want to think.  It's what I try to do with my writing, too. Been To The Moon made me feel all kinds of feeling--most of all like I was about to meet my new love. The song and the video is loose and lush, dreamy. Rae's jazz-tinged voice, coy and sensual. Transcendent.  She's been to the moon. Don't tempt her.  When Rae sings, I've been to the moon--I've been where you are. God help me...and when she announces she's back, and asks us if we recognize a fellow astronaut, well, I recognize her, and welcome her vulnerable, rising spirit back with open arms. Take a listen, and let me know what you feel afterward.Welcome back, Corinne.SOURCE:www.youtube.com, Been To The Moon, by Corinne Bailey Rae, posted by VeVophoto credit: www.thisisrealmusic.com
