Wendy Jane’s Weekend Sounds: Buddy by De La Soul

25 May

DeLaSoul3FeetHighandRisingalbumcoverThere was a lot of fun 90’s r & b and hip-hop, and I remember when De La Soul hit the scene with their album, Three Feet High And Rising.  They brought something so fresh with their hippy, jazz-rap sound, and lyrics both positive and witty.

This song was one of the tunes that popped up on my playlist today while out for my morning walk.  Here’s Buddy, featuring Q-Tip, the Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, and Monie Love.

    Dear Wendy Jane,
Hi, there, Wendy Jane! I love so this great and fantastic blog post article of yours! What a joy it was to hear this great and sparkling song by Buddy by De La Soul! I haven’t heard this in ages! I really loved this! I remember to that their superb and cool background instrumentation they reimagined and recreated from Taana Gardner’s spectacular song “Heartbeat” from 1981 which I also love a whole lot. Wendy Jane, you pick such fabulous music to put on your fabulous and fantastic website. I appreciate so you and your very fine, excellent, and progressive website so, so very much!

I also love and cherish your dear and great, special, and blessed love for us as black people and your caring and sensitively in touch love for black culture, Wendy Jane! You appreciate so much and love us so, so very much! I think your love and caring of black people and the black communities is just so great, cool, and wonderful! This means so much and means a whole lot to me as a black woman who I am!

I am going to read through your wonderful archives. This sure will be fun and enjoyable reading, and a benefit to me as a great learning experience. I like how you take a morning walk. I need to exercise more and walk more than I do. I am disabled with different and multiple disabilities and it can be hard for me to get around and walk but I think it would be a good idea for me to try to take even more walks and to exercise more than I do. I so love nature and the outdoors. I think that it would be very good for me. I receive disability benefits due to being a person with multiple disabilities.

Wendy Jane, you and your family please have a very nice, special, fun, and a very blessed Memorial Day Weekend my precious white sisterfriend who you are!

    Very Sincerely Always,
    Sherry Gordon

      Hi Sherry,

Thank you! Your comments always make me feel bright and sparkly–like this De La Soul song made you feel:) I so appreciate your letting me know my posts make you feel, and that you recognize that I write out of a deep affection for the culture of black people, and for black people themselves. Sometimes I worry that people think I don’t have a place doing so–sharing my music tastes, or commenting on my perceptions or experiences when it comes to race and race relations.

Thank you so much for your support. I didn’t know that you struggle with multiple disabilities. I’m sorry. If you can make it out for more walks, that will be great, because getting out and moving around is so good for our spirits and our moods.

Thank you again, Sherry. I hope you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, too.

      Wendy Jane
