Wendy Jane’s Weekend Sounds: Bastille vs. TLC – Scrubs

13 Apr

Just like People Magazine’s “Who Wears It Better?” where they have photos of two celebrities in the same outfit and ask who pulls it off best, this week perhaps I’ll ask, “Who Sings It Better?”  In this case, it’s the U.K.’s Bastille vs. 90’s super-girl trio, TLC with Scrubs.

I do have a bit of a crush on Bastille’s lead singer Dan Smith because I think he has a beautiful voice.  Also, it seems easyto fall for the stripped down version of an R&B song, and for me, especially to hear the no-bull, in your face lyrics sung in Smith’s proper British accent, but alas, I’m a sucker for TLC’s  spunk and delivery, and their killer, futuristic video, so I stand by the classic, and vote for TLC’s version.  What about you?  Who Sings It Best?  Leave your comments below.  Thanks!

Definitely, TLC. Lol. I am biased. I used to love them…and that song was such a cultural phenomenal.

Thanks for your vote! I go with TLC, too. That song was a cultural phenomena for sure–for young women to speak up like that–it was powerful, and funny at the same time, and the video was and still is super cool.

      Thanks again!

    Dear Wendy Jane,
Hi, there, Wendy Jane! Happy Passover to you! I hope and wish that you and your family have a very happy, nice, special, and blessed Passover! Where I live needs more diversity because I have trouble being able to find Passover and Hanukkah greeting cards at the greeting card and other stores for my dearest Jewish friends! They are so difficult to find where I live! I belong to a wonderful open and affirming church which welcomes and accepts lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people here in Iowa City, Iowa where I live! I recommended a wonderful book to my church people at church entitled, “Living In The Shadow Of The Cross: Understanding And Resisting The Power And Privilege Of Christian Hegemony,” by a Jewish author named Paul Kivel. It is a spectacular book and he is absolutely correct that Christian religious supremacy, hegemony, and oppression do indeed exist to a very great extent in our society! When bigoted people are anti-Semitic it makes me so furious! I have a very deep and special love for Jewish people in my heart, Wendy Jane!
I just loved Dan Smith and his Bastille and TLC! I cannot make up my mind between them. I vote for a tie between them! I, too, love Dan Smith’s voice and the sing songy quality of their rendition, along with their great instrumentation! I loved TLC as well, and they have a nice spark to their singing! They also had a cool background in their video!
I just so enjoy your fantastic writings and sharings Wendy, Jane! Enjoy and have a fun Passover!
    Very Sincerely Always,
    Sherry Gordon

As always thanks for your support, and today for the Passover wishes. It sounds like you have a really great church community, and I like that you can bring a book such as you did to the church goers, and have them be open to it.

      And, thanks for your vote!
