Seems friends of his behind the website, cultivated wit, created a site where folks can submit places–restaurants, bars, businesses, etc, that they believe are racist to www.locationbasedracism.com, and the site will post the submissions. Cultivated Wit’s mission, in their words is…”As a creative laboratory, we launch our own original projects combining the power of comedy and technology to make the world less shitty. As an agency, we help companies and organizations use humor to engage with their audiences, customers, and communities. We do not work on behalf of evil.
Here’s a screenshot of Location-Based Racism’s site, complete with people’s submissions of places they found racist, with Cultivated Wit’s comments below. Also included are links to the site with information on how to submit your own findings of location-based racism. I’m not sure, but it seems like an App for this shouldn’t be too far behind.
Find Racism Right Where You Are!
Sure, Foursquare and Yelp are great for finding artisanal bacon retailers, hamster-whispering veterinarians, and doctors that don’t accept your insurance. But you know what else they help you discover? Racism. Right where you are. Submit your own entries for possible inclusion. Terms and conditions here.
“You can’t end racism and make homophobia worse.” That’s what TV-star W. Kamau Bell said when he was interviewed in the book “How To Be Black.” Also, racism and recycling have nothing to do with one another!
During the Civil Rights Movement, people took bold action against discrimination, staging sit-ins, takeovers, and boycotts. This person clearly hates racism, but loves this bar, and so has suggested a time-based protest. You can have your gay bar and fight racism at the same damn time.
